Quilting & Applique Classes
Our Quilting and Applique Classes are ‘sew’ much fun, once you learn the basics your creations will be limitless! We focus mostly on machine quilting and some classes incorporate applique.
Some things you may cover in these classes:
•Learn about various quilting tools, technique and safety
•Gain experience working with various kinds of batting and fusibles
•How to apply basic top stitching techniques and stitch in the ditch
•Learn how to piece fabric together
•Learn applique stitches like satin and blanket
•Learn how to create bindings to finish your work
•Become more familiar with terminology used with instructions
•Learn several tips that will make the whole sewing process much easier
* Materials: Unless otherwise stated, students will bring their fabric and notions to their course. A small materials list is sent out about a week before the start of your course

Quiet Country Quilt
Sat., Jan. 4, 11, 18 & 25 ~ 10:30am - 12:45pm
Combine your love of serene vistas and sewing while creating your Quiet Country Quilt. This 40x 44 quilt can be created as a wall hanging, throw, lap blanket or crib quilt. By choosing different fabrics and layout you can create a Night Sky or a Sunrise scene. Depending on the color palette you pick you can create the season of your choice, spring, summer, fall or winter. Work with rotary cutters, quilters mats, quilter rulers and other basic quilting tools. Learn our “easy” way to create a binding which is not the traditional way and learn basic topstitching techniques.
Class Cost: $195. A materials list will be sent a week before the course. Leave With: A beautiful quilt, instructions and the skills to make more. Instructor: Kerry Snyder Prerequisite: Sewing 101 or previous quilting experience.
Jelly Roll Rugs
Mon., Jan. 13, 27, Feb. 3 & 10 ~ 5:45pm - 7:45pm
Create a 30" x 44" area rug using the jelly roll of your choice. Jelly rolls are cute, round fabric "treats" consisting of 40 - 42 strips of fabric. Each strip measures 2.5" x 42". This rug will be customized to your liking, depending on the colors and prints of fabric you choose. Brighten up your sewing room with rainbow prints, decorate a child's room with whimsical colors, or use coordinating colors to create one to compliment any room in your home. You might even want to use black and orange for a Halloween rug, or warm tones for a fall rug...the possibilities are endless!

Memory/T-Shirt Quilts
- Sat., Feb. 8, 15, 22 & March 1 ~ 10:15am - 12:45pm
Memory Quilts, also known as Keepsake and T-Shirt Quilts are an absolutely wonderful keepsake and heirloom to keep for yourself or make as a gift!
• You can create these quilts out of old concert tee shirts or really any t-shirt from sports games to rallies to fundraiser tees.
• How about babies ~ take a child's outgrown clothing and create a sweet quilt for the parents, grandparents, aunt or even for the child take to collage when they are grown.
• Some are made from clothing of a passed loved one to keep their memory, texture and color of their clothing close to us.
Students will utilize personal garments and fabric to create a block quilt that will be lap, crib, twin or full sized. Instruction will be provided in how to cut and re-purpose clothing to create blocks for the quilt. We will also discuss the best needles, stabilizers, batting and padding to use and cover some basic quilting stitches like stitch-in-the-ditch and top-stitching. * Please see photo above to gain a better understanding of the design format we will be following.
Because this course is a bit more personalized and everyone works at a different pace we can not guarantee completion of your quilt in class. However, all students will be provided steps to complete at home if needed. *At home work is given between each class. The larger the quilt you are creating the more at home work time will be needed. *There will be about 2 - 3 hours of out of class time between classes.

Hexi Clutches
This is the perfect scrapy project! Use up your left over scraps and remnants to create these adorable clutches. Learn to cut and sew hexagon shapes, some basic quilting techniques and how to create a purse complete with a metal clasp.

Christmas Tree Skirts
This festive Christmas Tree Skirt will be a wonderful addition to your holiday decor and a talking piece! Select fabrics of your choice to customize for your living space. Put out for holidays to come and keep as a family heirloom. Using fabrics and a color palette of your choice this project will finish at about 47 X 47.

Appliqued Seasonal Hand Towels:
This is the perfect seasonal workshop if you'd like to explore the basics of applique. Create seasonal hand or dish towels with pumpkins and/or leaves while learning about appliqué supplies, tools and techniques.

Oh SEW cute!! These adorable puff blankets make great accent pieces and also make fantastic gifts! In this course we'll utilize a pattern and choose between two sizes to create an adorable baby or lap blanket. You'll learn to stitch in the ditch, create pleats and become more familiar with quilting terminology, tools and technique. *There will be about 2 - 3 hours of out of class time between classes.
Holiday Mini Quilts (aka Mug Rugs)
This delightful course offers three different projects to choose from, Holiday Rudolf, Holiday Tree Truck and Joy. These Applique and Quilted Mini Quilts, also known as Mug Rugs measure about 7" x 10" when completed. This is the perfect project if you'd like to sample quilting and applique! You'll leave with one adorable project to place your morning coffee or hot coco on. And of course you can always place cookies on during Christmas eve for Santa! :)

Spring Applique Pillows
Could this project be any more cute? This delightful workshop will teach you a variety of techniques like how to applique, apply trim, create decorative hand-stitches and how to do machine applique stitching. Make a spring themed pillow as seen here or choose a completely different color pallet, utilize trim or leave it plan ~ the options are up to you.

Looking to add some charm to your home? How about creating an adorable bear pillow with or without glasses!? Or bring a touch of whimsy into your home with your very own unicorn quilt block or wall hanging!
Zig Zag Table Runners
Combine your favorite combination of fabrics to make an impact with this beautiful table runner. Choose a charm pack for squares of fabric that already work well together or dig into your stash and coordinate them yourself. Best of all, there is no binding! The runner is finished off by turning. Quick, easy and so charming once complete. This project produces a finished runner that’s 19″ x 44 1/2″, but is easily adaptable to make a longer runner on your own after class. Perfect for the beginning sewist, but fun for even the most seasoned quilter. Once you complete this class you will be ready to make one for every season!

This two session course is the perfect introductory quilting course for those who want to learn the basics and sample quilting! You’ll learn all about quilting tools like rotary cutters, self-healing mats, quilting rulers, how to use your quarter inch & stitch in the ditch sewing foot! We’ll discuss fabrics, batting, threads and stitching techniques. Bear Hugs
Looking to add some charm to your bed or sofa this summer? Use your favorite fat quarter to make an adorable bear block pillow using conventional patchwork techniques. In this class you will learn how to assemble this cute bear with optional applique glasses using a pattern. The easy to follow instructions are perfect for any sewist with some pattern reading experience. This class is sure to be "beary" fun!

The Mythical Unicorn

Sashiko Embroidery
Sashiko stitching is a traditional embroidery style from Japan. It was originally used as a decorative reinforcement stitch, but today is more for decorative purposes. Inspired by a recent trip to Hawaii and by Sylvia Pippen's design, Honu Sea Turtle found there we've brought a little piece of Hawaii into the studio.
Join us for this unique course where we will:

Dresden Flower Pillows
These pillows are sure to delight! Create for any season or any room in your home. This quilted pattern was one of the most popular designs during the 20's and 30's. Named after the ornately decorated tableware of Dresden, Germany this pattern is still widely poplar today.
